I started the game , made my account and talked to the wilderness guy, who droped me in the middle of nowhere, been walking in 1 direction for over an hour, havent seen a single player or town or anything.

Count yourself lucky then. Players are far between in this game. First of all few people play the game. Second the world is huge.
If you see someone else, log out immediately. They are likely to hurt you. Set up a leanto in a forest that borders on grassland near water and you can build your char.

so why is this an mmo.... if ur forced to play alone....

You dont have to play alone. See if any groups on the forums want new members.
But, yeah its a bad idea to walk up to people in the wilderness. In the main towns you an interact without fear.

I find I have the opposite problem.

Every time I log in theres 40 hours of stuff to do.

Salem is a game of setting your own goals. For some folks that just doesn't click.

Try making yourself a mid-term goal after watching those videos. Some examples are to set up a mining operation, or establish a cereal farm. Just be sure you claim your land! Anything you build on unclaimed land (even your claimed leanto) will eventually decay.

As people are saying, you can do anything you want in this game. I like to do different things. When I get bored from flattening land for example, I go about to gather grass to make hay. Its extatic..

I thought my first few days getting lost as a forest nomad were some of the most exciting.. but at the same time for the first 30 minutes I had no idea how to do anything or what I should do.. but it was great!!!

To explain: Online is obvious; Multiplayer is obvious; Massively, however, isn't so obvious. However, understand that everyone plays on the same server and can interact with each other at will. You might have to do some walking first. In theory, one could get a thousand man battle over a town. I don't think the servers could handle that. Can you get into a thousand man battle in WoW? Not even on the busiest servers will you see that many in one place. This is what makes the game "Massively" multiplayer. There are no limits to the number of players other than server stability.
