Hello.
I'm playing for few days and today I brought a friend to Salem.

I set a secret homestead and I gave it to him.
He learnt survival skills and talked to one of those NPC in Boston.
He entered the secret homestead, and then the system said : That Player has not settled.

But I have a lean-to as homestead. Can go back and forth from Boston without problem.

Do I need to claim a land to be reached by a friend?

What do we do wrong?

Indeed, you need to have a stake claim (claimed land) before your friend can use the wilderness spawn to teleport to you. It doesn't work with a leanto

So it requires 150 silver to play with a friend... not so easy.

Of course we can walk from boston till we find a nice place to settle...but bad people will find us more easily

If you walk for at least 3 hours, you've gone far enough that you should be relatively safe.

If you and your friend can walk together, then you can go on an amazing trek to find your promised land. On the way, you can study inspirationals you find to get your skills up, and you can make leantos to save your progress. The trick will be in disciplining yourself to keep going in one direction without getting distracted or setting up encampments that you feel are too permanent to leave behind. Also, DO NOT HOARD INSPIRATIONALS. Use them. Your inventory space is finite, and you will need as much as you can get for doing gluttony with forageables.

Once you find a nice place and have determined that there aren't too many potentially dangerous neighbors, then you will have a piece of land that you can call your own.

...Or you can save up 150 silver to buy a writ of homesteading.

I have one last question. Now that my friend has his own homestead, when he speaks to NPC in boston he can't use the secret homestead to be teleported to me.

So does it work only for new characters that didnt create their first homestead?

If he already used wilderness guide then he can't teleport to you anymore with this char.
