Abandoned ghettos

Im starting to outgrow my home.

I started with a small little caveman area. Then moved to the waters edge.
Ive spent the majority of my time at this new place, but im starting to run into problems. Im right up next to the water, which presents problems for fence building and expansion. And im on a rolling hill type area, which wasnt an issue before, but is very problematic now that Im building stuff.
So, im planning on moving.

Ive noticed lots of abandoned homesteads in the area. And so I was wondering...

Is it rude to move into someone elses abandoned homstead?

There is one close by, its been leveled, and paved, and is in an IDEAL location. Theres a wittlers table, a few boxes, logs, etc etc. but no Leanto and no Homestead thing.

Is it considered rude to move in, if no one is here, and it does seem abandoned?

p.s. Any advice for making such a move?

Should I buy a Certificate, go to the new place, build the thing, and then move? or move everything first? or?

I dont know what happens if I try and build a second homestead thing?

Anyone already do this, and have advice? pitfalls to avoid, etc?

You can have multiple claims, but only one homestead.

Be careful taking over bases. Why are they abandoned? Did the player just leave or was it because the neighbors ran them off? That's my one question for anyone looking to take over somewhere.

This can be a great way to save yourself hours of work! If you look hard enough you can abandoned claims with everything u will need already built, often even including a townhouse!! You should be careful however, and pondering why it was abandoned can be good for your health. Also, I highly recommend spending your initial time and energy into bolstering the defenses of upur newly squatted home! Good luck.

What do you mean by multiple claims?

When I use the "Writ of Homestead", i must first declaim my original one, and *then* use the new one?
Right now, I have one writ of homestead used. I put it down, and expanded a little bit.

I want to move to a new area, and use a writ of homestead, so my stuff is protected.

You can have as many claims as you want, provided you can get to them to maintain the upkeep.

Ive seen several walled in areas, that have like a whole in their wall, and look ransacked. No leanto and no writ of homestead being used. I assume those ones have been assaulted and so I dont consider those ones as potential homes.

But, in the absence of such evidence, what would be clues that the place is bad?

How far should I consider living from everyone else?

There are a couple other walled in areas, where players ar living, but I never see anyone there. And none of there stuff is working. Like the fields arent planted, etc tec. But there is a leanto and a write of homestead prtecting the area.

Like you said, im trying to save as much time as possible. By inhereting whatever work has already been done.

But, at this point, i just really need to move and get things rollin. Im at a barrier, until I can start generating Iron. Pretty much everything I want to do at this point, requires Iron. And, theres no way I can afford to just buy it all at Market.

What is the difference between having a "Claim" and having a "Claim as Homestead"? Wiki says I can have multiple claims, but only 1 as homestead, what does the homestead part mean? Does it mean where my Leanto is?

Ill need to build a new leanto at my new place right? to travel back and forth from town?
