Flattening land = Here I am!

Hi creators and destroyers,
Week long lurker and 1st time poster on this forum.
Familliar with HnH and thats why I picked up Salem.
About me; paranoid, carefull and a hermit. Learned in HnH that people are bastards. Nice ones can become bad, bad ones can become nice. All round nice ones can be careless etc etc.
Now to my question; I've read up on politics, left Plymouth for obvious reasons.
Walked around for +/- 40hours learning about the land, settlements, biomes and suitable locations.
Biiig problem: when you decide to settle, one must flatten the land. Thus creating a very obvious stain on the map that makes it easy to spot man made areas.
Is there any way to avoid this? I wish to live with the land as much as possible without making it very obvious someone is there.

Only thing I can advise is just flatten where you absolutely need to at first. Wall areas. dont build anything else that you cant easily destroy and move until later. If you log in a lot, then the grass etc will grow back in a couple of days. Paving also shows up clearly, so only pavewhere you have to until you are strong.
Best of luck!

Good to know it grows back.
I hate obvious flattening areas, thats how I avoid players.
So I take it you need to be at the location for the 'regrow timer' to run?
This in combination with the color of unclaimed objects/structures shows how much someone is at the location?
Thank you for the advice

.

From what I have read and experienced, the more you are around the quicker it grows, as long as there is a tile for it to grow from, cos paving stops it passing thru. The smaller the section the quicker it will grow, ie, a long narrow rectangle will grow faster than a large square.
And the colour of unclaimed objects is no great guide, a lot of people dont realise until it disappears!

there are patches of perfectly flat land, but they are quite difficult to spot.

If you pave your land it will still show on the mimimap. I have come across a lot of homesteads that were built with no pavement and they do not show up on the map.

I think mine grow back in a month or two... there are still some dots, but nothing too flashy and they'll go away eventually

@ysbryd Thank you for the information, ill experiment with removing small quantities and see how long it takes for them to disappear. Probably strips or small checker patterns.
@Snowpig, the places where I have seen such are places I wouldn't want to settle. Like plains.
@Iamah 2 months?! I don't even believe I will survive that long!

. Was it a large or small area?

It takes a really long time to grow back so its really no help. By the time it grows back anyone who would have wanted to scout you has you plotted on their map.

Yeah this is rough. I'm not sure why they decided to make this a part of a game where, for many early players, laying low is the only line of defense.
