I am wondering how the experienced players approach trying to find WSS. From what I understand they only spawn in stumps and supposedly in logs so pretty much I am wondering what should I do to maximize my chances of finding one in the shortest amount of time.

What I am looking for in the method is:
What movement should I use? (foraging, normal, or wander)
Is there a land type I should focus more on?
Tree farm good idea (yes/no and why) Also if yes then how far away should I start it from my base?
Any other info like best way to approach it

Yes they do, I am looking for the methods that experienced players used to find them most effectively

1) Wander, unless you can keep up run.
2) The ones with stumps in them.
3) Do you have a method for creating hollow stumps with a tree farm? If not, no.

Wander or whatever doesn't matter. Items spawn in hollow stumps one at a time until the stump is full. Meaning, if you look in a stump and it has items, either take them out or drop them on the ground so the stump won't fill up with junk before you check it again. Also, the items only spawn when the map is loaded so if you go far out where no one ever is, all the stumps you look in will be empty or nearly so.

Search the old stumps near your own base. Cut stumps will turn into old stumps randomly over time so when you get the skills to plant trees, you can make more old stumps near your base (a stump farm). You can also find other people's bases which are occupied and search their stumps.
