Compromised Location

Postby Sachaztan » Sun Mar 03, 2013 10:23 am

So I got my leanto from the indian guide in a pretty secluded place and I have built up a pretty good base there. I have settling, but not the silver for buying a writ of homesteading.

So when I log in today another newbie was looking around in my camp stealing my stuff. I start chasing him around and he promptly logs out. It turns out he has a lean to right next to mine! I can't destroy his lean to since larceny requires an absolutely insane (at least for me) amount of proficiencies and since he can steal absolutely everything that I store he will undermine pretty much every progress I make. I don't have rights of the Englishmen and frankly even if I did it would probably just make my situation worse since I couldn't use a wilderness guide, which currently seems like the only way out of this situation.

So my questions are:
1. Is it a bug or working as designed that the wilderness guide places leanto's so close to each other? (you can see his leanto from my leanto)

2. Is there any way I can save this situation without relocating my base?

it's pretty much bad luck for two leanto's to spawn so close to eachother, so close in time.

As to a solution: are you aware you can pick up containers (Adventure menu -> Lift do you even lift?) and then rightclick the leanto, to place them in there?
After that, only the owner of the leanto can take them out, or someone with larceny (a skill that will be FAR FAR away for the other new player too).
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I did not know that, thanks for the tip. Still, I don't see a better long-term solution than moving out. I think getting enough cloak and dagger for waste will take way too long if I can only use two storage containers.

yeah, but medium-term you'd be moving out anyway. Sevenless' guide has some tips on camp placement, and where the guide plants you doesn't tend to be a very nice place :) Short term, it can keep the few things you really can't lose more or less safe from thieving newb hands

Also dont forget to keep your absolutely most valuable things on your person when you log out, no one can get them there whatever stats they have. And use all your good curios as you find them, there will be more ahead, dont hang on to them just to lose them to a knock out or theft etc.

edit... no one can get them there as long as you havent commited crimes.

I'm sorry with you

But... the writ of hoemstead is to buy for 150 silver... thats not so much.
I't is recommended look for buyable things such as indian feathers and Arrows or any dried hide... then the 150 silver quikly gathered.
You should not build some things, until you have build the claim.

I had 5 hides out for drying and he took them all and obviously hides is not something I can make now since he will only steal them. And Indian feathers are hard to find! I'm considering collecting grass and selling hay to players, seems to be a market for it.

You don't need waste, just settling and 150 silver. Claim over his lean to and destroy it with impunity. And yeah, hay is always in demand.

If you are on Roanoke I will front you 150 silver for your writ of homestead if you agree to sell your hay exclusively to me.

Send me a PM if interested.

Search every single hollow stump. They have a tendency to spawn dried snake skin. You can gain your 150 silver quite easily (by Salem standard) by selling those. Or you can kill crickets, make cricket teams and sell those.
Reminder to self: Patience is a virtue.
