Building project disappearing

I have a question that I haven't found an answer to.

I started to build a Farmer's House with the sign standing, I put in all the planks and hay needed and was gathering silver for the last three nails. Then suddenly the sign disappeared and all my resources with it.

Is this the way it is supposed to happen? If it's some kind of bug how do I report it?
