well even if you have played since the launch of the server (was it december or january?) odds are you would still be able to get killed very easy and your homestead destroyed.
either stay away from everybody, log out each time you see another player and carry everything you make or face the fact that you have the chance to be killed and have your "base" destroyed no matter how long you have played.
my tip for you is:
start on one of the 2 "new" servers (Roanoke and Jamestown)
use you wilderness spawn and try to go far far away from everything, if you see other settlements within 50 screen then move
build up a homestead and start making food and get your humors up and when you have the skills you can move to a better location and maybe even closer to other people and build a more defended homestead.
but in the end its all the same, you can still get killed and your homestead can still be destroyed so thats why i dont see what the problem is.
yea who needs "secure" trading, its not like this game would benefit from it, lets just kill the newbs instead as long as that's fun and people still join the game.
