Prospecting

Postby theMGMT » Tue Feb 26, 2013 10:44 am

I've recently found a good spot to start a settlement with lime near by. Before I do anything though I also want to find a mining spot close by. This is my first time prospecting and it's proving difficult. I'm using drowsing rods. Is there some more efficient way to prospect? The arrow just seems to go every which way... :/

Best way to find a mine is just to go in one direction, sooner or later the arrow will start pointing at certain direction (a lot more than in any other), than you start to follow it.

You might also want to edit your radar file to show mine holes. How you can do this is explained in Sevenless' guide.

Ahhh thank you I think I'll do that. Though I've never added something like this yet. I've found the radar file and have opened it. Just so I don't screw it up where can I copy and paste the code? Anywhere between <radarConfig>?

The items are grouped in the radar.xml file. I'd suggest something like this:

<group name="custom" shape="square" show="true">
<marker match="gfx/terobjs/herbs/arrowhead" text="Indian Arrowhead" color="#008Eaa" />
<marker match="gfx/terobjs/herbs/indianfeather" text="Indian Feather" color="#33ffdd" />
<marker match="gfx/terobjs/minepoint" tooltip="true" text="Paydirt" color="#000000" />
</group>

Worked for me.

If I may piggy back here:

Where can I find a Myrtle Oak Leaf? http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Myrtle_Oak_Leaves
I haven't seen one yet, is it just a rare random find or?

You can find them on the green bushes which grow on grassland, the same bushes you can take acorns from.

I've missed that altogether then. The only bushes I've seen I can take anything from are berry bushes. I'll have a look for the bushes you're referring to.

Are those bushes scarce? I've just taken a 75 minute walk and either overlooked all of them (seriously?) or didn't find thr biome in which it grows.
