Depleting resources

If you dig on a resource, such as stone or lime, will it result in a deep hole or will it eventually turn into whatever biome it is on?
If a hole is made, can I fill it with dirt to flatten and "be rid" of the resource/hole?

as far as i know digging up a lime quarry will result in a deep hole, and it will not change to a different biome unless you throw dirt on it. then you can fill it up again and destroy the lime quarry.

however what i find more instersting, will lime quaries respawn/refill after some time?

Thanks for your input.
I guess I'll be testing at the edge of said resource. Just wish I didn't have to.

Your own question is interesting too. Realistically, I'd find it odd if a resource did "fill up" again, but you never know. The other option is if the world spawned new resources at random locations. I mean, we'll all deplete everything sooner or later and if the resources don't fill up Salem will become difficult.

You cant throw dirt on things like limeholes. Once you have dug down as far as you can, you have to dig around the edges and you can make the hole even deeper. You can do this as much as you want, but its a waste of time really...I'd rather just find a new lime pit and set up an limealt camp.

If I recall correctly, part of the idea with server travel is to allow players to relocate when resources such as lime and stone quarries start becoming scarce. If a server dries up enough, it could then be closed without any real lose or issues.

Thanks for the additional input.
The reason I ask is because I built my claim a little too close to a resource and I would like to expand just slightly. But I suspect that I can't build on top of the resource, hence my curiosity.
