I need brains! (How dangerous are deer?)

So, I'm just starting to make some leather, and I ended up diluting my tanning fluid too much (it's at 2.5%). I killed two beavers and used their brains, but since I wanted to try to tan 4 hides, I added two additional buckets of water. Unfortunately, the fluid is not too dilute for any progress to be made.

What's the best source of brains? I'm at 25 humours and I was a little bit leery of trying to take on a deer I just saw walking by. Would I be able to kill a deer at my current level, or should I stick to searching for elusive beavers?

26 B/YB and backally pugilism proved somewhat inadequate against a deer. Oh well, I wasn't using that level of Faith and Wisdom anyways. I think I could probably could have won had I fought a bit better and been luckier with my stomps.

Fortunately I encountered some beavers a while later, so my brain shortage has been ended. Now I have my very first piece of leather!

I encountered the Deer in the Boston claim area, and thought I might give it a go. Can't build there, and all logs and stones are long gone.

And forgive me for "Doing it wrong" on my very first attempt at fighting a Deer ever. In the future I will endeavor to do all things perfect and proper with no prior experience.

heres a tip for you... dont fight deers in boston hell dont tempt beavers unless you know 100% you are alone.

anyone can and will walk up and "lift" the corpse while you are trying to butcher it preventing you from skinning or harvesting any meat off it (including brains)

Stick to hunting larger game to your personal claimed area so you are better off for hauling it around.

beavers are semi ok to kill in boston if you are quick to skin.. crickets and rabbits are all you should kill for the simple fact they drop and are lootable quickly.

get a sword and you should do fine. just stay close to him so he does not charge you.

Correct me if im wrong but i think Even if staying close to a deer it may "charge".
Its been a long time since i started onehitting them but when it took 2-3 hits for me to kill them i remember standing next to it and it was turned with its side to me.
Turned around and was hit for 10+10 dmg.

yup they can and will do upwards of 3x charges even if you are humping the deer literally.

40yb and 2x thrust tends to own a deer provided you do 10.0-11.0 damage a hit

normal deer hit without gaurd active is 4.0B each ram"charge" is 10.0B

Iv had deer ram me for 30B at once they just ram and then double tap right after for another 2x 10B lol

best choice of action is to block the deer in so it cant move around to much then just thrust it until dead. (or stomp through a hollow log/bush/ect)
