FArming purity decreasing?

Hey guys i have a quick question. I understand all of the purity stuff about farming.But i bought a 99 percent mercury based cereal.I planted it with 50 percent upkeep and i hear to use 300 plenty and 300 speed (which is supposed to raise purity faster) and it went down to 88. Then i did it again went down further. Is there like apurity cap considering the level of the crop. Im getting just basic oatmeal im not sure if that is why it is going down. Any ideas? whats he best way to raise purity? thank you for any input.

Purity changes are random. It used to be that fertilizers had a great influence on purity, but that was severely nerfed due to the effects of using high purity dross. Now, it's more or less random. When the purity is that high, odds are it's going to come down pretty quickly.

Thanks for your reply so there is a chance of it raising agian. Also am i right about 300 speed and 300 plenty is the best way if you want to purity grind?

In general, purity changes are now pretty much random. If you're at 99%, the stakes are high it's gonna come down.

More purity: more seeds from a single field => if you get lucky and receive some very high purity seeds, you can seed more fields with them
More speed: fields grow faster => you get the random changes in the sown seed's purity faster

The general grind is: plant as many fields as you can afford (space/seeds/ferts/...) and hope at least one of them rises in purity. Take the highest purity seeds from these fields, and replant them and hope again.
Speed & plenty don't directly influence the change in purity, but they make the grind easier/faster
