Confused on Gluttony

Postby Artaniss » Wed Jan 09, 2013 8:21 am

I looked at the Sevenless' Guide and read about Gluttony and I am still confused. I went into Gluttony mode and started eating mushrooms one after another and the only bile I raised to 10 was black bile. The other say 0.0 10.0 ( 5.0) while I am in Gluttony. Why is the Blood bile only going up and not the other when the food I am eating heals all biles for 3.5? Please let me know. Thanks...

The healing value is not the gluttony value. The numbers in colors under the healing values are the gluttony values. B, P, YB, BB respectfully for each row. The wiki has a list of foods and the average it may add to humors in gluttony mode.

Key notes for Gluttony:
The salt/mercury/sulfur/lead numbers give you the percentage chance of getting that color event. (most items early on are 25 for all those, so you have an equal chance of having any of the 4 events)

The color coded number show you how many gluttony points you'll get for each humor, if you get than event.

For example: A normal blackberry has these stats.
Heal: 1, 1, 1, 2.5 (these numbers have no effect on gluttony)

Salt:25.00 Mercury: 25.00 Sulphur 25.00 Lead: 25.00
Whenever you eat this food, it will randomly select one of these 4 events. the 25's here mean that each event has an equal chance of happening. (25%)
Red numbers: Salt event. You get these points added toward your gluttony (.8 phelgm and 1.2 black bile)
Green numbers: Mercury event. (1.2 ph and 2 bb)
Blue numbers: Sulphur event. (.9 ph and 1.7 bb)
Yellow numbers: Lead event. (0.2 Blood and 1.5 bb)

With foraged foods that are 25.00 for each element, you need to look at all the numbers and see what's the most common. (all 4 blackberry events give more black bile than any other humor, so it's good for raising bb early)

Later on, through farming, you can grow plants that are biased toward one element.
Example: If I grow a pumpkin that is Salt: 5.00 Mercury 95.00 Sulphur: 0.00 Lead: 0.00 then it will almost always do the green event (95% of the time) and rarely do the red event. (5%) It will never do the blue or yellow event, because both of those have 0% chance.

P.S.
One thing that often confuses people early on is the stupid colors of the humor bars themselves. Green = Black Bile and Black = Phlegm. (either a stupid mistake by the devs or they're actively trolling their playerbase)

I ate almost full inventory (11 or 12) of blackberries and my BB stayed at 5... I have blood 8 though... I thought that I'd be getting BB more often.

And bars in humors changed when I ate something. What does that mean?

The bars in Humour increase when you eat foods. Humour increase by 1 when a bar fills up completely. If your highest humour is Blood at 8 then you need to eat enough food to accumulate 8 points in whatever humour you are trying to increase.

Yes, it can be quite confusing at first. Eventually you will get better at it.

Do not eat ONLY blackberries, because your variance penalty will go up. Watch your variance penalty and eat something else with BB like Salem Wiki: Waxing_Toadstools to eat when you see your variance increase to drop it back to zero.

This is the one thing I HATE with Gluttony. The variance doesn't hinder much at low humour but becomes a serious pain in the arse later. I've tried to counter it by eating something other than what my current main food is and it never drops down to zero. It goes down one variance point at best (from what I have seen anyway). Maybe it will become better now that I've started gardening. No need to forage for things I might not find for stupidly simple recipes.

I think variance is the best part of gluttony. We have so many foodstuffs in game currently, and will have even more in the future. All this for only 4 humours. And we still keep using only a few of those for gluttony. Without variance we would be using only 1 food. Variance should encourage, or even force people to prepare different dishes. And people who strive to reach very high values in humours should be cooking / eating most types of foods.

This or I see no point in adding new foods :/
