Noob totally lost need some guidance

Postby Artaniss » Tue Jan 08, 2013 11:36 pm

Hey all just got in to the beta and I am lost, and that is an understatement lol. I got enough skills to speak to an NPC and get my first homestead, but then I crafted a few thing and am now out of phlem and have no food so I don't know what to do. I know I have to eat something but where do I find it? I have no money to buy anything lol. PLease let me know what i should do next I have the first skill trained when I started game ( the one they pretty much give you) I got some shiny stone and study 2 of them and got the second skill needed, then I got foraging. But now I am at the point I dont know what to do next. I even got killed by a damn snake lol... Thanks all.

Depending on which biome you live in, you can eat mushrooms, berries, and milkweed root. I highly recommend you read Sevenless' guide (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=181) and the Salem Wiki (http://salemwiki.info/). Good luck. :)

First, install Ender's Client. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=50
I don't think the default client's new minimap icons show creatures, so this will help you avoid the snakes (and bears).

On food, there are a lot of random spawns that are edible in a raw form. Mushrooms, blackberries, and herbs. The mini-map should show you these - though you may need to enable it in the options menu.

Once you find yourself a bit of food, your next step should be to work on your skills. Getting Foraging was a good step - I suggest getting Lore of the Lumberwoods followed by Hiking next. This will let you build a Leanto and move to a new area if the one it started you out in seems to be sparse on resources.

Also, read Sevenless's Guide to the New World. I never did read it, but I hear its pretty helpful for new players. :)

It should be a default, if not, click the gear icon in the lower left corner (its a yellowish color), then click the box for options (lower right icon in the list of 6 that popup). Minimap icons are on that first section of options, I forget what its called exactly, and I'm not logged in to check. The internet is crying here because I'm uploading map tiles via FTP :(
