Was dissappointed with how easy it is to break the wooden chests. Pretty much worthless as a way to protect your supplies. Are metal chest more resilient?

Yes, still not worth the 6 bars in my opinion though.

Metal chests are really easy to destroy its like 1/4 - 1/5 of a stone wall. Not worth it to make them in my eyes.

If you are going to use metal chests, just leave them unlocked. Then the raider will accumulate crime charges for each item he wants to remove from the chest. Once you can make sheds, it kind of renders the metal chests obsolete though (unless you are too tight on space for sheds).

Or lock it, have the raider destroy it and pick up the items from the ground under brazier fire [works even nicer if you put in some items that look pretty large on the ground - leather, cotton cloth]?

Yeah, I guess they would accumulate more crime charges that way...just dont leave anything you don't want to get stolen in them and use them for crime charge bait. Since the player cant tell the difference between a dropped piece of yellow cotton from sea island unless they pick it up.
