Is this Dowsing Rod useless?

Postby Dyne » Fri Dec 28, 2012 12:55 am

I just read that dowsing rods find nodes at +/-10 of the purity, however I bought a Dowsing Rod at 14% purity. I was so excited to use it and find a decent mine, but I haven't been able to find any whatsoever. I checked the stats of the dowsing rod and the lead value is 2.46, is this too low for it to find any mines? The Salt and Mercury are high, I guess that's why it's at 14% purity. I feel kind of jipped. :\

Higher purity mines seem to be much rarer than base or near-base purity ones, so it will take you longer to find them. I've heard stories of people looking for a full day or two with 60%+ rods before finding a node.

Will that dowsing rod still find a mine somewhere, ever? Should I save it?

It can find a mine, 14% isn't even high.

It will find mines, Dyne. The nodes it detects are just rarer, so you'll probably have to travel a good distance before you find one. They can be kinda easy to miss, but adding

Code: Select all
 <marker match="gfx/terobjs/minepoint" tooltip="true" text="Paydirt" color="#000000" />

to your radar will have the nodes appear on it as a black dot while prospecting, if it's within render distance.

On plymouth we searched for a week with a 60% before giving up. Covered about 1/3 of the "light" area of the map and found nothing.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

Ahh, good call on that. Hadn't thought to do that when prospecting. Thanks.
