Reduce claimed area

...is there a way to reduce claimed area without losing the entire claim? For instance reduce it one row of squares in one direction.
The reason is, I am getting sick and tired of getting the "area is not flat" message when trying to build fences even though the maximum decline is 4 points. I have built way too much to be able to painlessly remove my fencing to level the entire area. I'd prefer to reduce my claim to allow for decay.
