I have walked a fair distance and realized I have no idea what direction Boston is in. I have a lean-to and I can warp to Boston but I would like to know the general direction of Boston. I am a little disoriented.

Furthermore, what would be a good area to set up a home stead? Any suggestions?

use your mini map and learn the land. after that look it up on the map

setting up is a preference thing. go with what you like the looks of. forest/grasslands are great for noobies.

Your best bet would be to find an area that has 3-4 different biomes within close proximity, for example a good place would be somewhere with water/grasslands/autumn forest and pine forest.

My problem is I have already wandered away from Boston. Does the town have a general direction? East? South? West? North?

In Plymouth, Boston is on the East coast about half way between the North and South.

use Ender's client(http://forum.salemgame.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=50) and try the free camera option... I find the original camera very disorientating because it circles around you... put the free camera angle to match the mini-map, this way north is the same both on camera and in mini-map
