Easy death

Postby Steelhawk » Tue Dec 11, 2012 4:46 pm

Explain me, please, why death in game is easy.
We walking with friend and gather some resources, unexpected, one pers killed my friend  (we playd 5-6 hours on this moment). Why developers made this? After that accident, we not play more, because death is very easy and suddenly. I think this BIG mistake of developers. Most new players leave this nonfriendable projects after first accident.

This is the nature of the game. Either you lie down and die or you try once again.
Imagine losing your character after 1 year of play. Would that be easier?

Sorry but i laughed pretty hard on this one.

1. Salem = Permadeath game
2. (we played 5-6 hours on this moment) This is nothing really, easy made up with a new character. What would you do if you got killed after spending 100's of hours?
3. Always be aware of people around you, it's better to run for nothing, then to die doing nothing !

While you do have a point, in that it's really easy for an advanced character to kill a newer one, you need to realize that this isn't common. Murdering random people is likely to get you summoned sooner or later, and that could result in you losing your character in return. Scent management is a big part of being a criminal (for most people, anyways), and leaving them around haphazardly is usually unwise.

In short, people who kill just for the fun of it with no rhyme, reason, or strategy don't tend to last long, and even so, when you're a little more advanced than six hours you'll have methods to make yourself safer and less attractive to murder.

For new players this game is based more on running away (or logging out, than it is staying and fighting) especially early on when you don't have many skills.

When you are new, you get one free teleport to a random location...OR to a friends camp. Use it. You will be taken to a location where there are less people. Starting at town and running out to look for a camp location, is very dangerous to new players.

To me, the key of this game is...you work hard, you build and all that is all completely replaceable and not such a big deal to lose. Your character on the other hand...is not so easily replaced. So avoid other players till you really understand the risks. Get Enders Mod, it's a huge help.

So pay attention to your surroundings and don't be overly friendly until you have the ability to protect yourself.

That's what the "(for most people, anyways)" was for. There are people who manage to live even though they're running around murdering people, but most of the time leaving scents all over is risky.

That said, I guess it could be different here. Most of my experience with raiding and being raided comes from haven, but it doesn't seem much of that stuff has been changed.
