Question : Where to start to build

Postby since » Sun Dec 09, 2012 12:03 pm

Hello everyone,

I think I must decide where to place my homestead, I can build a "leanto" but I don't know what is the best place to start.

I'm new to the game so I need suggestion where to start, it would be very helpful for me.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Near forest, grass and lime. Bonus points for water (especially with a beach), 2nd forest type and clay.

I'm going to repeat a little of the points already said:

First location wouldn't hurt to be an Autumn forest with a swamp or plain biome near it.
Second loctaion, a Pine forest (could be your first choice if you really like to level up first Cloak&dagger) with beach, good lime spots and plains near.
Third location would be starting to think moving near darkness and mixing in whatever biome you look for (lime spots WILL ALWAYS be needed so give those priority).

For the "ideal" spot to settle down, you would want to find a clay biome big enought to expand in the future w/o you having to level the ground.

Edit: Dunno if worth mentioning but: the less people you have near you, the less you have to compite for resources (such as lime, mines in good locations and Granite stones).

Though clay is flat theres a number of buildings you cant build on it (houses, walls, most structures).

The best thing to do is take a random trip into the wilderness using the wilderness guides in Boston and then searching around for a good spot (this requires the hiking skill so you can build another lean-to when you find a good spot). You may need multiple trips to find a good spot to start your search for a home.

In many ways, the most important answer to "where?" is anywhere far away from other players (unless of course, you want to play with one or more friends). I would wander around looking for the biomes listed above and making sure there aren't any/many player compounds in the area (you won't be able to avoid being found by someone eventually, what you want to avoid is crowding or being close to large villages -- this assumes that hermits are more likely to live and let live, which may be wishful thinking).
