Decay Mechanic - I want to know all details!

Greetings,

I want to know all the game mechanics regarding "DECAY".

How does DECAY work ?

What triggers DECAY ?

What determines the timeframe a item has to fully disspear?

How do you determine what the item repair cost will be (ie Leanto's need woodblocks, how do ya know what other stuff needs? is it just one of the things required to build it in the first place)??

Does pavement prevent or lessen decay mechanics?

Do things decay faster in different BIODOMES / Locations ( ie near water, in deserts, in forests = does it speed or lessen decay) ?

Thanks

:?:

It randomly happens to object not otherwise protected from it (ie not being on claim). When something is hit by decay we say it got "decay tick". Decay ticks are applied to random tiles every now and then

It's random, but each object has its health. The more health it has, the more ticks will be required to break it. Items left on ground will disappear once map is unloaded from server (noone was on it for some time) or when small amount of time passes.

It's hardcoded for each object, and you can check it by attempting to repair it - error message will tell you what you need.

Dunno, but I doubt.

So if you have a AFK person on the (area / map) nothing will ever (decay / despawn)?

Boy, if that is the case - this is really interesting.

Has anyone ever noticed a item they drop despawn even while they were next to it being semi afkish?

Thanks

Yes, things will disappear if dropped after awhile, even if you're still next to it (wood choppings are the worst for doing this while whittling)

Dropped items despawn whether there is someone or not. But they can despawn faster if map is unloaded. For example if you travel to Boston.
And I think items disappearing are not related to decay mechanic

Is there items that do not decay / dissappear unless someone does something?

Like for instance .. Farm Fields = Do they not decay?
or how about Garden Pots?

There is difference between items and objects.

Items are what you keep in inventory.
Objects cannot be put there. Farm fields and garden pots are not items, they are objects.

So, trees don't decay.
Most other objects don't decay if they are on claim, but decay outside of it. This includes fields and pots I think. But why would you keep those outside claim anyway?
Animal corpses do decay on claims.

How do you repair a Farm Field? How do you know if it requires repair?

Same for Garden Pots - These need to be burnt in a kilm thingy, what happens to these? Do they despawn?

I don't know if they disappear on first decay hit or do they need more. Actually, I'm not even sure if they are affected by decay. The point is - noone keeps fields and pots outside their claim. Because when they are outside claim anyone can destroy / harvest them. So if you are to place those outside your claim and are worried about decay - be more worried about people passing by.

Put all your stuff on claim and don't worry about decay

Well, lets say your in the corner of the map, and u can create a patch of land that is surrounded by your claim(s) -

Only way others can get to that area is to go threw your claim(s) which would have walls and other stuff blocking...

This is why I need to know more about Decay, Despawning Mechanics for items / objects...

Another stuff I think isnt effect is the Timber Piles, Coal Piles ...

Anyone got any intel?
