KO - crime mechanics

So, Ive been playing for about 3 hrs or so wandering the wilderness collecting stuff leveling up those skills a bit.
I finally come across a little plot and think hey that looks cool lets have a look, first real interesting thing found.

Hmm ok someone owns the land, hmm I thought this was open roam little rules type game, turn on the crime thing, then bam KO - lost 2 of the 3 things I levelled up.... and now stuck... doh =/

Ok, so I read around the forums a bit and reliase the Black bile drains just from wandering someones lands as its a crime, KO last 24hrs? Or unless he sends me home.

Anyway no big deal, Im not complaining as such -

But my question is. Whats that all about?
I thought you could basically do what you want on this game.
Thats what I was read elsewhere. Kill people, steal (if you choose that life) Now it appears you cant even wander onto someones plot for a look around out in the middle of the wilderness without severe penalties?

I see there is some skills for tresspassing and such, do they drop these penalities? But again whats that all about?
I havent seen one player in 3 hours around the area I was wandering, who is going to know I just crossed a fence into a 10 x 10m plot of land (or care for that matter).

Everything is relative. At your level crime is very dangerous to do -- get 20 or 30 more black bile and you won't be knocked out when you just look in a claim's direction.

To make a game balanced, there needs to be a risk to any useful activity. It wouldn't be any fun if you could do anything you want with no challenge.

Trespassing is actually looking into containers, larceny is taking something, vandalism is breaking stuff (or building stuff I think).
