Old logs safe for storage?

I haven't progressed far enough to be able to craft boards yet so I'm restricted to just the 6 slot basket. I saw that old logs have 8 slots, if I carried it into my claim and put my stuff in it will it be safe? Or will it disappear after awhile?

They seem to be safe, I've had one on a claim for upwards of 4 days without it, or the items in it, disappeared.

Careful though, sometimes a snake runs out from under a log when you lift it.

You could make Large Urns easier than Wooden Chests now. No need for a 5 day wait, and no need for coaling as kilns can be fired with branches.

It would cost you a grand total of 4 Nails for the Clay Trough.

Here's how you do it:

1) Acquire 4 Nails. Most of the stalls in town sell these very cheaply now (at least on the Boston server), look around. It shouldn't cost more than 20s each for Nails (total of 80S).

2) Build a Sawbuck. (Requires Carpentry.)

3) Build a Clay Trough. (Requires Pottery.)

4) Build a Bucket. (Requires Carpentry.)

5) Pick up water in bucket.

6) Put Lime in bucket to make Milk of Lime.

7) Put Milk of Lime into Clay Trough. (You can repeat this process a few times to fill the trough up more).

8) Dig up dirt, and put the dirt into the Clay Trough to make Clay.

9) Take clay and build a Kiln. (Requires Kiln Construction.)

10) Put Clay in the Kiln to make Bricks. (Requires Masonry.)

11) Use Bricks & Clay to make Unburnt Large Urns.

12) Put Unburnt Large Urns in kiln, bake them, acquire Large Urns.

13) ???

14) PROFIT

Wooden crate is easier for new characters - it requires only carpentry and sawbuck - 5 fresh boards and 2 wooden plugs per 15 slot container.

I was going to say, wooden crate is 15 slots for a total investment of 2 nails (for the sawbuck to make planks)

after that you can just spam crates, no need for 14 steps of pointlessness.

OR here's the simple way:
1) Walk to clay pit
2)mine clay
3)put in kiln
4)put wood in kiln
5)fire the kiln
6)wait a few minutes

Except then you discover the burnt urns require lifting and your settlement is 10 minutes away.

While both the wooden box and the burnt urns are nice options earlier on, they've already said they haven't progressed enough to make either.

So to answer the question asked, yes, those logs should be safe enough, but again, watch out for snakes. :)
