Raising Cloak & Dagger Early On

Postby Sticks223 » Tue Nov 27, 2012 6:53 pm

I'm trying to raise cloak and dagger so I have more combat options to get more silver, but it seems all the early stuff requires maple leaves to make. Are maple leaves extremely rare or am I just unlucky? Almost all the maple trees with leaves falling of them have already been harvested, and they seem to never regen more leaves. The only other option I've found is stuffed rabbits, but I need to sell the pelts for silver because making the 150 for a claim is hard enough already.

Find yourself a coniferous forest, and make a temporary camp. You will find a ton of singing old logs.

You're either unlucky, or in a highly populated area (such as Boston). Area's that see few people, or people with built up homesteads, tend to have plenty of leaves from what I have seen.

There's also this list:
http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Cloak_%26_Dagger

Tumbleweed's (550 C&D) are fairly common in Plains biomes. Earthworm Python's (750 C&D) are also kind of common if you are checking all of the Stumps. Stumps also (rarely), have the Whispering Snake Skull's in them (5,000 C&D). The Singing Old Log's (900 C&D) are all over the place in Forest biomes, spawning both on the ground and, again, in Stumps.

Honestly though, I'd ignore the tumbleweeds and maple leaves and just find yourself a forest (the green and brown type on the minimap, not the puke-orange and yellow types that have maple leaves), and hunt Singing Old Logs. These also have high Law & Lore (1900) plus Sparks & Embers (2600?), which you'll also need for combat related skills.

Thanks for the tips, I'll put off the combat skills and get indian tracking first. I have found the arrowheads before without indian tracking, do those have any use to them?

Yes, Indian Arrowheads and Indian Feathers combine (recipe gained via Indian Tracking) to make the Savage Charm - which would have two uses for you:
1.) They are a C&D inspirational.
2.) They sell for 35 silver in Boston.

I didn't see it mentioned, so I'll do so.

C&D was nerfed early game to slow down the grind to the skill Cain & Abel. As these guys point out, there's still enough there without industries to get your combat skills and Rights of Englishmen.
