Cabbage and pumpkin seeds question

Hi all, I am a newbie farmer and I have two questions:

PUMPKIN SEEDS: I have planted gourds, had two crops of baby bears, and received 12 pumpkin seeds from each crop when I split them. The farming guide says that I will need 50 seeds to start a new plantation on a field with 100% upkeep, but when I tried to merge the two piles of 12 seeds each in a single pile by dragging one over the other it would not work and they would stay separate. Once i have 50+ seeds, will I be able to start my field even if they are split in separate piles as long as they are in my inventory, or am I missing an intermediate step?

CABBAGE SEEDS: I had my first crop of colewort and it also yielded a seedsstalk that by the description needs to dry in any container for some time. How long is 'some time', approximately? I put it in a normal chest, should I use a drying rack, or something else?

Thanks!

left click the pumpkin seeds and right click on the other to merge them. Use woodchips to get your upkeep down to use less seeds

cabbage is like a day or something short like that.

if you managed to get your cabage field down to 50% upkeep i'd suggest you plant your pumkin seeds on that field. thus only needing 25. instead of trying to get 50 seeds and using them on a freshly tilled field which has 100 upkeep and will require 50 seeds. (upkeep is important and very easy to maintain once you get it down to 50)

FYI you can replant baby bears in gardening pots until you have enough to get seeds for planting. Sounds like it's a little late for you on that front, but just in case you run into this problem again it's not smart to rely on gourds once you get your first baby bear.
