Question about planed boards

Postby mimi » Sun Nov 25, 2012 12:49 am

I have 6100 in Hammer & Nails and i got only 16 planed boards from more then 60+ dry boards ?! is that like 25%? Can someone confirm this...
I think that's too low chance given the all the time needed cut down trees, drag them to ur base make plank piles on some separate locations trying to make room for them on ur crowded claim (far from any other object) and w8 for 5 days for them to dry to be wasted like that...

I have 5.6k H&N and everytime I've gone to plane boards I've gotten roughly 50%, today I did 20 dry boards and got 11 planed. Don't know how you got such a terrible rate, are you sure your numbers are correct? Did you count exactly or just estimate?

at 100 levels of hammer and nail the person reported getting ~75% success rate iirc.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

There's going to be a bit of a random element to it. I've only got level 25 hammer & nail, but I planed 18 out of 20 boards successfully the other day.

Sort of related but didn't want to make a seperate thread just for it:

Does timber pile placement matter in the success rates of getting dried boards? The description implies so

Yes, it does matter. From what I understand, you need to build it at least 5 tiles away from any other objects.

Consensus is: Dunno.

There seems to be a hefty random value involved (as well?). So what exactly influences placement, and how far away they should be from other stuff seems to be completely mysterious right now.

Best guess seems to be 6 tiles from other objects, structures definitely seem to cause problems, liftable objects might not.

Thing is people have followed that guideline and still gotten bad returns.

In the old days when I didn't bother reading tool tips (6 days ago) I placed 5 timber piles all directly next to each other, the results: 14 dry, 186 mouldy. So yes it matters alot.
Now have 8 piles, with a minimum 5 tiles from anything.

Although I haven't yet gotten my second round of boards dried I do agree that it seems to be around 5-6 tiles from anything non-moveable(including trees).

Also OP, I've had some terrible sprees of luck myself with planing, just gives me more to do having to continue to grind up H&N. You can get pretty high up just using decorative wood carvings and the various other H&N easily made junk stuff to reset learning.
