Aligning boxes when dropping them

Postby Deacon » Sat Nov 24, 2012 11:53 pm

I know when building boxes you can use shift+mousewheel to rotate and cntrl+mouse to place it more exact, but is there a way to align something more precisely when dropping it after having picked it up?

Thanks

You can shift+right-click to snap them to the grid but if you really want to be precise in your placement, it just takes practice lining your character up and remember which spot to click on within a tile.

The leveling tools in the custom clients provide a very handy tile grid that makes lining things up by hand a bit easier.

Yes, I'm a nitpicker when it comes to organizing storage containers and would be lost without the grid tool. LOL

I came to the conclusion that 14 item large urns that take one tile are just as good as boxes, visually more forgiving about slight misalignment, and don't take wood (which is becoming a bigger and bigger consideration).

I can't argue with that logic. I'm in the middle of a forest right now so wood is plentiful but trying to get the crates to line up nicely can be a pain.

For beginners, wood is definitely easier than clay by a mile. This flip flops after ~1 month of living in an area when easy wood is now a 4-5 minute walk. And that's assuming you're in a forest. Grassland it's much much worse.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

Clay isn't that hard for early use if you don't mind foraging for lime. You are all ready at the stage where you can build (and protect?) a sawbuck before you can make wooden boxes and pottery isn't very proficiency intensive, IIRC.

It is however a lil hard to get enough skills to make the kiln to make the bricks, to make the urns
