Is the plank fence superior to a stone hedge?

He said something along the lines of "much stronger". It's a Plank Wall, not a fence after all.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

I am not sure why being a smith has anything to do with wooden fences (unless they need nails). Check the latest development announcement.

On a lighter note, I wonder if the best thing to take out the new fence might be a musket -- that would let us plink the plank.

Why? Jorb said on the 8th during his stream that they had several new walls coming. I'm sure it was probably said earlier than that.

The Plank Fence wall takes nails, and planed and oiled boards. As obnoxious as it can be to find good sources of lime and granite, the plank wall is going to be a pain for the large variety of industries you need access to, as well as how much time it's going to take to dry, plane, and oil all the boards you end up needing.

If it's not stronger than the stone hedge, nobody is going to use it. The only possible reason I could see to do so in such a case is if you've got no access to granite or lime boulders.

Round Pole Fence < Stone Hedge < Plank Wall < Brick Wall < Cast Iron Wall

Jorb said there's 5 wall types intended in total, with round pole fence being the first. In other places he's mentioned brick walls and cast iron walls. Plank Wall is clearly the third type. People get a little confused because stone is naturally a stronger material than wood. But the difference is between a fence and a wall, hence the strength bonus.

I'm a little concerned with the brick and iron walls. This wood wall sounds like an absolute pain in the ass to make, but bricks and iron aren't that hard to mass produce in comparison. Guess it depends on quantity of iron, but bricks are very easy to spam.

Yeah, but they were easy to make in mass quantity in Haven too, and brick walls still took enough of them that they were traded, and even allowed new players to essentially trade labor for higher end goods.

He could make us use lime and sand to create some sort of mortar. There's two more components we already have which would make it more complex and difficult. I'm sure they'll come up with a way to make it difficult. If there's one thing Jorb and Loftar are good at, it's making things take ages.

Boards were easy to spam too before they made more board types :P.
