I just started with smelting Iron bars,
And there's a few question's about the stats of the bar:
I have here two bars with different quality/multiplier/and Salt/m/s/l :
say I have 1.7 multiplier and 1.3, does the first make better Lockets? or isn't it yet implemented or is there a whole other meaning to it?
and what about Salt/m/s/l? what are those good for? what's better? and what for?

S/M/S/L are the elemental composition of the item/s in this game, and they determine the purity of the item, or trigger different events when used etc etc.
25/25/25/25 is 0% pure with a base x1.0 (Almost all starting items in the game are this)
100/0/0/0 is 100% pure with x10.0 (Seeds like this exist as well as some other foods, unsure about a mine but a high one exists 50/60%+ maybe higher now at least on plymouth)
As 1 element increases and the others decrease, the item will gain higher purity and a higher multiplier
The x1.7 is better when making lovers lockets, also having higher purity bars means making higher purity dowsing rods, which means finding even higher purity mines.

Can confirm 60% lead mine existed. I think it was ~ the highest ever found, not sure if better has been since.

Hey guys, I dont know if im allowed to hijack this thread but its a question relating to the OP, I understand that the purity and composition of the mine affects the relative stats of the iron bars produced, but what im wondering is how this affects different items, specifically tools (pickaxe, shovel, axe, flint and steel, sabre and musket) and buildings/containers (nails, anvil, etc). I am assuming there is no effect as the items themselves dont seem to have purity or comp. But then what im wondering is, apart from the lovers locket, is there any real benefit to searching out higher purity mines?
Im a newb this is my first mine, and mining/smithing is my thing so i want to get it right >8¬) Also my co-players would be annoyed if they found out they invested in a shoddy mining operation >8¬)
Hope you guys can help and thank you for your time.

This is one of those unanswerable questions: we have no real idea how the game will evolve to take metal purity into account (although we are pretty sure it will). Since the only way of finding high quality ore is to create progressively better dowsing rods (another thing we know is affected by metal purity) to find better mines, you might as well set up your operation and start looking for mines.
