bucket and water

ok, what am i missing...I tried to equip bucket...but its a no go..i tried to stand in water click it, no fill option..i set bucket next to water's edge and left clicket it, and right clicket water...nada...what am I missing?

You left click a bucket in your inventory to "attach" it to the cursor, then right click with it on water.

thanks, I almost did that to begin with, but was afraid I'd drop the bucket and lose it, like happened to my sword.

You lose it when you left click the bucket in the water -- after two buckets lost, I finally trained myself out of that one.
