2 Small Claims | 1 owner | 2 Defenses

Postby daopa » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:57 am

Greetings,

IF you have multiple small claims nearby and the first one starts to attack a raider, the raider keeps walking thru it then walks into the second claim with defense.. will the second one auto attack or does the (needs to do 3 things) reset?

What are the parameters for the 3 strikes, how long does that last?

Thanks

Defenses are managed at the claim level. Claims are the ones that "aggress" the invader, not the individual defenses. So no, if someone pisses off claim 1 and walks onto claim 2, claim 2 will not attack them immediately.

It's not exactly 3 actions, it's 3 vandal actions. I believe assault is now a single action so that braziers would actually defend someone running onto the claim away from an attacker. That's a guess though, haven't tested it. So it's "3 vandal strikes equivalent". I'm not sure how long they last, but I know it's a long time. 1-2 hours is likely a minimum. Someone can't reasonably break into a base by waiting between the cool downs as far as I know.

Edit: To solve your multi claim issue, get a village claim. That'll cover all the area under a single "sphere" of aggression for the defenses.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

I'm setting up at a area with like only a narrow pathway to get to my main claim, want to setup choke points leading to my main area, but if its only triggered one claim at a time I guess i need 3 walls at each claim min ...

Thanks!

Just had another quick question, Do Build Placeholders count toward the 3 strikes? Or would they have to be something real...

Action is an action. So yes, you can force people to vandal things like signposts if you wish. Theoretically you'd prefer to drain their bile, but it's much easier to put up and they might take a break before the final brazier assault anyway.

I just set up my own claim, with a hovel, 1 field and am producing leather. How badly do I need to set up defences and is there a link to a page that explains how to properly set them up?

Sevenless has a link in his signature to his guide, which includes a comprehensive section on base defense.

At some level you need to decide how much you will lose vs how much it will cost to set up the defense. I would certainly suggest at least a wooden fence to give you enough time to port to Boston if someone comes a-calling. With leather you are most of the way to torchposts which will limit the damage they do.

With a starting farm and leather working, I did decide to layer a wall behind my fence; however, I don't have enough stuff to justify spending 600-800 silver per brazier for iron and will just be building torchposts to start. Since we know the need for three walls to trigger the braziers/torchposts is a bug that will be addressed, I am not going to add another layer of fence. Of course, my decision is based on not seeing many people in my area of wilderness and my ability to rebuild (when I have high influence fields, the cost tradeoff will change radically).
