Locked in

I seem to have locked myself into my claim. When I locked my gate the key fell from my hand at the gate and I can not pick it up. the copy I made doesn't work. Any ideas?

Sounds like you'll have to break the gate and remake it. You cant open it w/o a key, or change locks w/o the master.

You can only unlock a gate from the outside?

Either side, but you need the key to do so if it's locked.

I have a green copy of the key but it won't open the gate from the inside

Did you attune the key to the lock before you placed it on the gate? The green just means you made it/it's attuned to you.

yes, I did attune the master key. I have keys I made from the master. Exactly how do you use the key on the gate?

You just right click the gate. If you have proper key in your inventory then the gate will open.
You DON'T click on a gate with the key. You do nothing with the key, it only must be in your inventory (or keyring)

Wiki was blurred about this but to attune a key to someone.

1 create a copy of master key
2 use the copy of that on someone to attune it to them (pick up key right click them),give them the copy then that person can use the gate.

Just copying a key doesnt work if its handed to someone.

There should have been no reason to have the key in your hand to lock the gate.

You make the master key, make the lock, hold the key and right click on the lock in your inventory to attune it to the key, then hold the lock and right click on the gate to add the lock to the gate.

Unfortunately, if you apply the lock to the gate before attuning to the key, you can't attune it to any key and the lock will never open.

Question: can one make a new lock, attune it to a new master key, and apply the lock to that gate while it is locked?
