Fast Travel and Foraging

I used to play haven and hearth and i just today decided to try out Salem. I'm doing ok and got my homestead up, but I have an issue.

you can only travel home from Boston or with an empty inventory

So does that mean that every time i go out foraging and find a bunch of really useful things, I have to actually walk all the way back home? I cannot fast travel after finally reaching the really far away grassland and picking grass for hay, I have to actually walk all the way back? Also this game is not isometric like haven and hearth was, the camera rotates. So that means you can lose your bearings and forget completely which way you came from. So you can get lost easily. Especially if you have found flint or toadstools or whatever and so you cannot fast travel now. I'm not really getting what I'm supposed to do? Is there some option that I don't know about?

The key here is to learn how to forage in a circle instead of a line. Head back once you're half full of stuff and loop just outside your original path. By the time you get home you should just be filling the last slot or two in your inventory.

If you have friends, they can give you a party arrow home. Alternatively, if you're *really* lost you can give up what you've got to free tp home. Generally speaking get to learn the lay of the land asap to prevent this.

It's not a hard concept, it's just very different from Haven. Takes some adjusting to get used to. All the HnH vets went through it and mourned XD

Thank you for that bit of helpful tips mang. I still don't quite know about it though. Is there something that at least just makes it a little more bearable? Can you run? Can you ride on horses? or some other type of vehicle or transportation....thing? The Wiki isn't really that great just yet

Use a custom client so you can have a non-rotating camera.

It's been a while since I played H&H, but it seems the spawn rate and density of foragables is much higher in Salem especially after you get the few foraging skills (such as Mushroom Hunting). I rarely go very far when I forage and do a bunch of it around boston (even with the competition it is productive).

Boston is actually a great place to forage. its mostly noobs who can only see rocks and grass.

And then when you fill up your inventory, you fast travel home from Boston right? So that means you are foraging and then using the fast travel method......so how exactly do you claim that you think porting is bad? Your fast traveling home with a full inventory, which is exactly what I'm talking about. And using the only way to that is available.

The nearest grass to the actual town in boston is miles and miles away, so i would still have to walk all the way there and back, and i didnt get dropped off anywhere near a grassland.

The only solution I have is saying "well, i guess I'm never going back home ever again. Just keep moving forever"

I usually go in circles but just yesterday I decide to explore further.. The key is always monitore the minimap for visual landmarks. I was dubious it would work, since I crossed a desert, but soon there was a swamp and other little marks to memorize. I found a feather and made my walk back, luckily it was successful, but I guess it depends on how unique are your landmarks.
