Damage Calculation

Anybody familiar with how the damage calculation works for both mobs and the player?

For example when I fight grasshoppers 90% of the time they hit me for .2-.8 damage, which I can tank just fine. But every now and then they hit me for 2-4.5 damage which kills me in 2 hits. What am I doing wrong that lets them hit me for this amount of damage? I'm in "Guard" mode the whole time. Is it really just that random for them to hit that high?

Depending on how much reel you currently have in a fight, an animal can hit you for more points. Regain composure helps reduce it.

Listen to the noises grasshoppers make. They have a special attack that is used roughly 1/5th of the time (random though, so you can get 2 in a row) that deals additional damage. Different animation and noise.

Also remember to have your guard stance turned on. If you're facing the enemy you take half the damage from their attack. It's incredibly important for low stat hunting.

My sound in the game doesn't work. All I can hear are when I attack or level up something.

But I will try and look for the different animations :/

If we're only talking about crickets, you can easily level your humours to the point that they're not a threat. It's not like you have any more of a chance to dodge the special attack than a normal one.

You can get 10 in every humour within an hour or two if you know what to look for :)

I'm assuming you know to keep your yellow bile high to deal more damage and you use the technique where you walk away from the cricket? If you do that it will jump around for a bit, and then head straight for you. At that point you just line up a punch and hit it as it gets to you. You only need to hit it 3 times as a beginner and take two hits from it.

Actually, they prefer to do it the more imbalanced you are, since that attack deals more damage that way. So it quite helps to keep balanced.
