Just had a friend create her first character and she went through the tutorial (awesome!) and then it sent her to the random wilderness location. Afterwards I met her in town and handed her the marked New World Survey. When she went to Luigi and Clark, they only offered the standard 50s and 30s teleports. She paid the 50s one, and it sent her to the standard hunter lodge.

Did the "one teleport" get used by the tutorial? Or did we miss a step?

You sure you went to the right spot? Using the right NPC?
You DO have one free teleport if you have not used it yet, and the tutorial does not do that.

She talked to the wrong people. She does not talk to the people near the barn. She will need to talk to the guys on the pathway to the cemetery.

Also if the map you made is one a claim or town claim may not be able to use the map. If that is the case it should not consume the one time use of map.

That is correct, also found out that myself lately.
I kind of liked the old system where you could simply go to the claim of a friend, but well, it's not that bad.

So you can't make another char on your account and travel to your other char, after making it kin any longer?

We switched to this Survey method because it's more flexible, easier to understand, and it makes kinning safer as people can no longer just teleport to your claim if they have you kinned.
