People keep talking about bustling towns and cities, raids, trading, professions, yet here I have just been randomly dropped off in the wilderness with no one around for miles?

Am I missing something? Is there supposed to be an option to join a town or something?

Try ***** doing something before you go to the forums and start ***** immediately how movement is bad or how the game is empty.

This is a help forum, *******.

The Providence map is simply very big, so it's hard to randomly bump into other players.

new characters are homesteaded by the npc in a more or less constant radius from the town. as this area is very often visited, players do not build their permanent bases there, so it is normal that it seems empty to you. you will get to join groups and towns as you get to know people and make friends later on.

Noobs perspective:

The map is very very big, player base is relatively small, infact were you got dropped off will probably be one of the most populated areas. Towns are started and maintained by players, joining a town unless you do it with rl friends will most likely be achieved from this forum, alot of towns don't accept new players because of trust, with the game being perma death and full loot but some do, so ask to join a town on this forum. I'm sure with patience you will find somewhere.

Raids I think arn't that common.

Trading is thriving from my experience, either from player owned stalls and from this forum.

Professions, well you can specialise in certain trades, but I havn't much experience with it since I'm new myself.

Game can be complicated at first, I'd advice watching some vids on youtube, refering to wiki and ask questions on forum to get help.

Try youtube tutorials(tons). Really helps starting. Also, read forums. and until u understand the politics in the game, keep yourself to youself. Otherwise you might end up dead

People on forums are helpful, if u learn first to use the search widget on the HELP forum, and then u pm people, and ask to join town as a noob, etc etc.
