So far all I've figured out how to do is walk around and pick up things. I think I crafted something once... What exactly should I be doing?

Keep learning new skills, increase your stats, find a place to build your homestead in and build.

Ultimately though it's a sandbox game. Get to know the mechanics and figure out what in the game (if anything I suppose?) interests you, and do it

Wait... No picket fences. Maybe encircle boston in picket fences too to make it just like suburbia too?

Actually serious. Some people have toyed with building a wall around boston as something to do in game.

I remember in H&H some people started building trade roads through the wilds during one of the older world instances when cooperation was more prevalent. If we ever get the ability to terraform cliffs, this could be very useful in some places.

As this is a "crafting MMO," one approach is to determine what forms of crafting and resource gathering you are interested in persuing and gaining the skills you need to do it. You could aim at hunting and leather working as a start or farming and cooking and cloth work or mining and metal working or all of the above; you can go out on your own or, as was said, you can join a village and work with others (probably a good idea if you want to actively get into the PvP game).

yea I'm not advanced enough to get there yet. What do I DO

Like if I said "I'm hungry, but what do I do" and you said "eat" and I said "but what do I DO" then I'd need you to tell me "get up, find something edible, grab it, bring it with you, and consume by chewing"

So with that in mind what do I DO.

what to do is really up to you. finding other people to play with will really opens doors for what to do as you guys will set a goal on making a settlement. Learn the game and set goals to improve a place in the world for yourself. once you get the hang of stuff join a larger group of people, troll, grief, build, farm. this is a sandbox there is no right or wrong way to play as long as you are having fun with it.

I think people are confused by your question, your asking: What do you do? but from your replies you should be asking, How do I do this (insert specifics)?
