Its random. You either have to catch a buttefly and hope its a moth or feed a caterpillar, wait 3 days and pray to good its a moth.
I preffer caterpillars.

Id stick with beeskeps if i was you. And those have range, so depends how you planted trees i guess.

No, trees blooming its pretty much RNG and activity.
But when they bloom (get flowers) , thats the time when your bee skeps come in effect. You should have both (bees and butterflies) because they stack together and make trees bear fruit faster (after they bloom).

From what I've observed I don't think bees and butterflies stack, they just overlap.
Also fruit trees only will blossom and produce fruit if the title is loaded so if you don't have people active around your trees 24/7 then you will benefit from making an alt to leave logged in when no one else is.

It's also important to know that even an empty 100% bee hive still works to pollinate tree orchards, so they are just as permanent as butterfly houses.

I was not aware of this fact and that is the main reason I had not began a fruit orchard. Thank you for sharing. :D
