That cursed host file

Hey people of Salem, you all know about the DNS thing and how to get in by editing the hosts file, I'm sure...but what do you do if you've edited the C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc hosts file, saved it correctly, and you still can't log in to the game? Obviously I managed to find the forums through the alternative link (mortalmoments), but when I try to run my Latkai Client it's a no go; server not found.
Have cleared caches, flushed DNS, refreshed refreshed refreshed, and its a no go.

can you ping game.salemthegame.com and have it actually resolve to an IP address?

Tried pinging and...

"Ping request could not find the host game.salemthegame.com. Please check the name and try again."

and other variations of that link, minus the http://www., just salemthegame.com, nada.

Same situation for me did everything as mentioned, still can't connect to server with latikai.

Tried ping game.salemthegame.com (and variation) does not work. Pinging the ip 148.251.44.214 does work however

then clearly none of you saved the hosts file properly. or it didn't register which means you'd need to restart the computer, but most likely the file saved as hosts.txt or something, or you didn't have the administrative rights to save the file in the fancy schmancy windows folder with restricted access. Make sure you're on an administrator account and make sure that after you've saved the file, you're left with a file called "hosts" merely, no extension after it like "hosts.txt" and that when you open it in a text editor it still has the lines you wanted to save.

Ideally you could go into folder options to turn on extensions showing up always, so you can make sure that it does indeed have no extension. if that sounds tricky, just check if instead of the blank paper icon it had, it now has a word/wordpad icon, which means the format was changed when saving.

To save it properly you'll need to turn on extensions showing and then delete the extension to leave just the name "hosts" and have it register properly.

Wow huge images, ok, pretty sure the file is saved correctly. Ive got those settings right and it's not a notepad/text icon, nor does it say so anywhere. I've also tried with the #s infront of the lines, and I've since rebooted the PC and retried pings, to no avail.

Can you replace whatever amount of spaces that is between the IPs and the hostnames with just 1 space each?

Yes ok, replaced with 1 space, saved...still "hosts"...no ping, no server.

Alright, more steps Open a command prompt with admin permissions and try the command "nbtstat -R" to reset your NetBios cache, says the internet.

Make sure the file ends with a blank row, as in hit enter after that last entry.

Make sure you have proxies turned off everywhere ever, that can mess with it. If your ISP slaps a proxy on it anyway and that bypasses your hosts file, idk.
