I was wondering what level humours i should have before taking on any snakes, i'd like to craft some snakeskin items after learning hideworking.

Stumps give snake skin for free, check them if you're living in the area. Generally speaking most people hunt snakes with bull run because even at minimum damage I believe it instakills? 10 YB at least just to be sure. You can't hunt them without the instakill because one hit and you're swigging anti poison or seeing the lovely sky soon enough.

I think some people use muskets to hunt them from shallow water though.

If you can get them to come close to you while standing in shallow water, you can stomp and kill, too. The range is enough they can't actually hit.

What I've been doing is getting them to aggro me, and then running inside my fenced in area and stomping them through the walls. :S
