New player + cold snap = frozen before even starting out?

I spawn into the wilderness with hypothermia at 97 degrees already.
At 90 degrees I lose the ability to regenerate humors, at which point my char is essentially crippled -- no more woodchopping, no more building, no more studying, no chance to recover. Until then, I have roughly 8 minutes! That's barely enough to chop enough spruce wood for the basic jute clothing, with Patchwork&Rags pre-studied in tutorial..!! Top that off with a haybale, and viola, still losing temperature, as if they have no thermal effect at all.
An active fireplace doesn't help either, my character freezes to an ice block next to an active fire..!!
A starter house requires boards, which requires a sawbuck and a saw, which requires metals, which already require quite an establishment.
So how do I survive even the first hour in game? I'd really like to play but I feel like I've no chance to even begin.

First off, welcome to the game. Second, good question.
This newest patch is absolute death to noobs and just hit the elevation button on an already steep learning curve. The patch is brand new and I'm hoping that they fix it for new players to keep them around. The good news is that once you figure it out, it's not that big of a deal anymore unless you go up mountains or it gets really cold.
Here are some fix ideas I'd like the dev's to try:
1. Give noobs a free window just like they do with insanity.
2. Make noobs make some clothes in the beginning and explain hypothermia to them there somehow.
3. Make a warming hut for noobs in Providence somewhere so they can lower their hypothermia in cold snaps.
4. Maybe lower the hypothermia if they stand in town.

The question is: How does a character frozen in the wilderness get to providence to collect your generous gifts?

Sounded to me like he logged at ~90 body temp.

I'm 78 right now and about to freeze. I'm in Providence.

You can actually make it this time (since it's not the coldest winter possible) if you just port to Prov and then farm some reeds on the coast. I tested it on a fresh character. You don't even need to find some rattler hides in logs or anything for hides.
You just need to know that you can change the pilgrim robe from the jacket to shirt slot or vice versa--can't remember.
You can get enough thermal to stop losing heat in like 5 minutes.

There are buildings in town, right? You can go to your leanto and teleport to town, go in a building and get back to normal temps.
I was lucky enough to find an abandoned building in the Popham server. So I stayed close to there and kept going inside when I needed to get warm.
Do your best to get low level sewing skills as soon as possible, and chase crows to get black feathers. Keep snake skins and cobwebs too. You should soon be able to make a crowfeather cape, a jute cap, a pair of brown pants, and some haybale shoes. My new char is way low but she doesn't get hypothermia anymore.
Ofc, I made this char after the previous char I made got frozen rather quickly and I had to read up on the new mechanics :/

A leafy bed also helps to get gain body temperature again.
But I agree it's another pain in the ass for new players (still new myself) and it's already extremely hard to get people to play this game. My friends didn't even make it through the tutorial. It just pissed them off right away.
The mechanic is cool, but there needs to be a lot of improvement to keep the new players.
