Psychotic Episodes

Postby JohnSnow » Sun Aug 28, 2016 9:16 am

Can we gather information about all psychotic episodes and their consequences? Maybe someone will add it to the wiki.
I'll start with what I know. First, where find it, second, what it does.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they decide to adopt a pet Termite in their inventory. His name is Steve.

Chopping a log. Steve will destroy wood blocks in your inventory.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they meet The Precious.

Sifting rubble. The Precious destroying all your gems.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they create a TimberTerror.

Whittling. Timber Terror reduces the Hammer and Nail skill. A terrible thing.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where an all-consuming flame washes over their inventory.

Collecting coal. The Spark will burn stuff in your inventory.

-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where their own blood is found all over the cloth produced from a loom.
-Players will sometimes create questionably effective nails.

Weaving and making of nails. It seems like just waste of resources. Something else?

Does anyone know anything about the rest of the episodes?
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they are entirely positive that they are a turkey.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode known as Meow Meow.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they feel the need to get naked, put on some poison ivy underwear, and party.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they invent the world greatest digging tool and cannot understand how it was never invented sooner.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they find the world's largest Salami.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode while planing boards.
-Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where their goods become covered in slime.

Please, write where this happen, and what kind of damage bring.

Most likely you were insane (http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Insanity) and during whittling you have created Timber Terror. While it's in your inventory whittling will cause permanent loss of H&N. Reduce your insanity or be more careful when you are insane

Well, I found some wooden doll, but did not pay attention to it. Why is no information about such things? Or is it forbidden to talk about this like about witchcraft?

It is one of those things that you either need to browse the forums or come across it.
Not a witchcraft, just a madness episode.
Edit:
My advice is never work while having madness levels (even 1).
You can break most of the tools which would be sad (broke my fair share before the madness nerf).
Carry a trumpet at all times and just play 2-3 notes every hour and you'll never get a madness level.

Nothing is forbidden about madness. You will find a majority of the episodes from JC's announcement post.

Yeah, but it does not say what happens during this or that episode.
Players may now experience a Psychotic Episode where they create a TimberTerror.

It does not sound scary, but it's worth a few days of production inspirationals and potions.
I also found this.
1> madness was not about crime alts, that was merely a side effect it was about the first step in introducing a "dont starve" type of passive survival mechanic and the ability to implement amusing things like people scratching their asses until they bled to death or nuking their proficiency in xx because they were unobservant and tabbed out afk while processing things and so on.

Which psychotic episode can kill me?

The part scratching and bleeding to death was about posion ivy, when your character will drop its cloths and posion ivy will appear in pants slot. It causes periodic blood damage if you do not remove it. But AFAIK it doesn't kill, only KOs you

None actually, some can KO you, like the ivy and the flame, yet that won't kill you, except it happens on a BM. ^^

Madnenss itself will kill you, once you reach lvl 10, you are dead, permanently.

Right after Madness was introduced one of my characters was killed while experiencing my first Poison Ivy (Itchy Britches) episode during foraging and exploration under a Blood Moon with only Madness level ONE. RIP Captain Crunch!

I think part of the reason no one talks about it is because most people who have discovered the details the hard way prefer to see others suffer as they have.

It's also easy enough to keep madness away that most people don't even have to deal with episodes so it doesn't come up all that often.
