Pirate sash mechanics help

Hey all I saved up and just got a pirate sash since on the wiki it states it can store quite a bit of items.

The problem is when I try to slot an item or tool it wont take to one of the sash slots.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Players may now store New World Survey, Paper, Writ of Homesteading, and Town Charter in the Pirate Captain's Sash."

It doesn't hold tools or other items than mentioned above (from the wiki: http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Pirate_Captain%27s_Sash).
