abandoned claim

I see lots of abandoned claims when I go on my usual trips and I know for sure that no one paid the upkeep for a long time (things start to become dark red so no one touched the place)
Is there a way to take over their claim without making any crime?

As long as the claimstone is actually not paid for, the only scent that will be made would be the trespassing scent.

You can then just destroy the claimstone and place your own(But if the claimstone has any money left in it you will leave a crime for trying to destroy it)

even an empty claimstone leaves a scent. and trying to bash a claim with silver in it, wont leave a scent

Ignore MaxPlanck, he is wrong. Icon is correct.

I would add that you need WASTE skill to destroy a claim stone and about 60 Phlegm and 60 Black Bile if you want a real shot at destroying a claim stone in your first attempt before your BB drains out. Perhaps someone can give more precise numbers.

These rules only apply to Providence. On the Popham server defenses are not active if upkeep is depleted and you will not commit any crimes, nor will you need any specific skills to destroy the claim stone.

+1

It costs +- 30 BB when you begin to destroy any object as a crime (including pClaims) so I'ld guess that 50 pleghm and bb would do if no torchposts or braziers are near (but watch out - don't click to destroy twice)

Another way would be to build a town bell nearby and invoke eminent domain to remove the pclaim. That does not leave any scents, but costs a lot of silver and materials - first to build the bell, then to remove the pclaim
