Benefits of Very High M&M?

I'm at 445 M&M and I"m not sure I see the point of going much further.

I usually can cut a starburst gem. Most often, I can't mine out even tiny triangles between non-overlapping mine supports to save materials that aren't even expensive anyway without getting a cave-in.

Is there any point to keep going? I guess I could switch to S&E or something on this character.

Edit: I know about the granite/lime benefits, but I don't like taking this character out of my base anymore.

I'm not sure if it still affects the purity you can get from ore (not anymore right?). However I'm pretty sure it boosts the chance to find high carat gems when chipping boulders as well as your chance to get bigger boulder when going for lime or more granite boulders when going for stone.

"Someone once said me" it lowers the damage when you find a new mine level too, but you probably don't need this and yes S&E is good to use the long range mortar
