Inherited claim, but what about keys?

I inherited my claim after death; however, I am faced with locked gates that I can't get out of. I had created an alt to hold my master key, but it is red to my new character. How do I make my inherited claim usable again?

you use the master key on your new character:
With the alt that has it (to which the key is green), left-click the key in your inventory/keyring, and then right click the character you wish to be able to use the key.

You need to make new keys or get those keys from the alt and use them.

So I should have had my old main attune the master key to my alt before dying so that that alt could then attune it to my new character. I assume that means there is a way to have more than one character from an account active at the same time.

it does not mean that

you cannot attune them to characters from the same account (something that is definitely missing

) unless you have a go-between.
the process that you described however, is correct.
Most of us have an alt account by now, but you might want to find someone you REALLY trust to act as go-between.

You can have 2 characters in game from the same account, if one character is KO'd for 24h on a claim.

Alternative way without getting KO'ed - still not a proper mechanic IMO

What you linked uses KO as well.
But indeed no KO is needed. It's enough that you make your alt tresspass on your claim and then get off it. While it has criminal debuff it will stay in game, even when you logoff.
But remember - once your alt gets crime debuff, its BB will be drained on this claim, even if he gets all permissions. You have to wait for the crime debuff to fade.

which is something that should be fixed soon. there has been a few suggestion threads iirc about letting your new char inherit keys along with claim and i think devs are aware of it, although im not sure how high its priority is.

Erm... Master keys can be copied even if they're red to the character. It's why they're on alts in the first place. That's what the "Copy of a Master Key" option is for.
