Iron Tongs Switching

Hey all,
So, If I'm doing a large quantity of wrought in a session, I usually switch out my iron tongs when they hit like 90% or 95%. Was just wondering, if your on the trip hammer when the iron tongs hit 100% and break, and you have a couple of spare tongs in your tool belt, backpack or inventory, will the game auto switch to a new pair?

Yeah, I didn't notice the exact point it switched them but I believe this does work. It also seems like it waits until the end of a trip hammer working session to finally break the tongs, so I don't think it interrupts you when they break... It's possible I was just really lucky though.

Thanks jcwilk, that's good to know, I guess I'll figure it out from here knowing I won't mess a bloom up in the process. I'll post results later if no-one else confirms wether you were lucky or not.

No, you weren't just lucky, it auto switches them. Just done a nice little session and it switched out 3 times no problem.

Did you notice if it switched mid-wroughting? Doesn't really matter since the end result is the same but just curious.

To be honest with you, it was the biggest solo wrought session I had done up till now. Managed 75 with no mistakes. I had a pair of tongs at 50% and created 2 more which went in tool belt. I was so focused on controlling 2 characters I didn't pay attention. I only realized it had been auto switching when the 3rd pair broke and I had to quickly make a 4th pair.
I will keep an eye out next time for you if you want me to though.

It doesn't switch anything if you have tongs equipped in your hand. If you only have tongs in your toolbelt and not in your hand, it will pull the tongs with the lowest amount of wear into your hand. I find this a minor annoyance in situations where I have tongs from a previous session that were at 48% or whatever and the auto-equip feature will leave that one to be used last only because I don't want to ever have 3 or 4 partially used tongs in my toolbelt. But it's not a big deal, just equip the tongs you want to use first into your hand.
The moment of the switching/tong use is when you grab the bloom out of the forge. This might be a source of confusion, because as you grab that 25th bloom out of the finery forge, you will be hammering it into wrought iron with no tongs in your hands. When you go to grab the 26th bloom out of the forge, your next tongs in your belt will switch to your hand and be at 4% wear.

Thanks, I didn't even think about how many blooms a single pair could handle in a session. Now I know. It is good info when planning the next session.
