Postby Antmf » Mon Mar 21, 2016 7:56 pm

Make sure you have Indian tracking. If my memory serves me well you need that to see feathers.

If you are not finding them in stumps it is because others have gotten to them before you or you are in an area with a vary little population and map tiles have not been initialized in a while to randomly spawn items.

Get http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Indian_Tracking

Keep opening every stump and log.

Within a maximum of a couple of hours you should have the silver to buy a personal claim - or keep on scavenging until you can buy a town claim. You'll find a ton of inspirationals and get an idea of the game that way. I would suggest just being a scavenger for the first 10-20 hours of playing - at least. Or just making some very small, very temporary bases.

Couple hours till a pclaim? Only need 5 charms to get 160 silver to buy a claim. Shouldn't take but 30 minutes if that. If you cannot find any in 30 minutes then you really are in the wrong area and should consider moving elsewhere.

+1, being nomadic is lots of fun as a newbie :P Stay zoomed out while you wander around to try to catch a glimpse of a grown-over-and-abandoned raided base that might have some goodies left behind that you can glut/study/etc off of for a little while before moving on. You run across good stuff (for a brand new player) all the time if you're just cruisin' along all the time, and you'll also find oodles of good stuff by looking in stumps, etc, as others have suggested. Might luck out and find a whispering snake skull (worth > 1000s) or other stuff worth hundreds.

It's also good to use these hours to learn more about the game to put your claim in a good spot (somewhere 30 maps away from other claim, 1h away from any icon on New World Survey, plain, and near water and clay)

I have heard stories of some people finding simple bonnets in tree stumps. Whether they were placed there by someone or there is a rare chance of them spawning. Old tree stumps are like a box of chocolates you never know what your gonna get.

Last Easter we had eggs spawning in stumps which later turned into fertile turkeys. So keep searching!!
