Stealing from someone who's asleep?

Is this even possible? I'm only asking cause I woke up without my hat and it's nowhere to be found...

ETA: just to clarify: I was asleep in a leafy bed, in a pclaim and not out in the open. I should not that the only defense it has is a torch and some makeshift fences. I also didn't find any scents/evidences around the claim nor are any of the walls broken.

they can steal your inventory or your equipment through your claimstone/leanto - so look there for scents.

I can't find anything, unfortunately. I wasn't online the whole day yesterday. I guess I should start looking for a new place to settle now that someone knows where I live.
