The Popes Guide to Defense

Hello,

loads of mistakes have been made in defense by alot of people who clearly dont know how to defend themself, so i though id open a guide for this.

1) Walls

theres a huge load of walls to play with and ill break it down here

Makeshift Fance:
Cheapest wall, no defense value

Splitrail Fence:
better and needs atleast 50-60 phlegm of a raider to break down and breaks slow

Stonewall:
Image
Easy to build and good defense, enemy needs atleast 90++ phlegm to break in

Plankwall:
Image
also easy to build if you can massproduce woodpiles, perfect defense for newbies needs 200++ Phlegm to break

Brickwall:
Image
takes a huge load of bricks to build and special bricks, best defense and needs 450++ phlegm to break and 2+ hours of time

Ironwall:
Image
takes 7 Steel to start and 3 Steel each wall so only good for a townbell rounding, but needs 1000+ phlegm and hours to break

Offense Objects:
===================

Torchpost:
Image
- low damage
- low rate of fire
- long range
- good in masses for criticals

Braziers:
Image
- semi-high-cost
- medium damage
- low rate of fire
- medium range

Baby Braziers:
Image
- low damage
- low range
- high rate of fire
- movable

Claim Objects:
====================

Personal Claim:
Image
- cheap
- easy to build
- starter protection
- can be easy broken into or claimed over with a townbell

Townbell:
Image
- High Cost and medium upkeep
- to break in it needs a Trial by Fire and 24h preparation time of any attacker

whats else important? oh yeah KEYS and LOCKS

Image

see this shiney Brickdoor? it wont do you nothing if you dont use a lock and key to protect it, you actually need 2 chars for that now
- 1 char making a master key and locking all doors, putting the key safe away
- second char who also has a attuned master key incase ur main dies
- keys for you and all your townmates

i am the Townleader how do i prevent theft or anything?

1) make yourself a walled claim like this inside ur town that only you have keys to and has high defense so noone would access it
Image

2) only accept people into your town you fully 100% trust

3) always key and lock your doors

4) always check if all doors are closed when going to bed

5) keep increasing your defense whenever you can it keeps raiders away

6) when going out dont go to far and keep pocketwatches and satan salts with you to run.

thats for a small guide if i remember something or someone else knows something im happy to add it.

I approve the effort and initiative to talk about this topic. Nicely done.
However I would like to see/hear more indepth tips and tricks what you have to take in consideration when planning your town defence.

I know the information tends to change without any notice from time to time. But planning a defence and building it up is a long process when you are doing it alone.

So some things that I have thought / seen. Correct me if i'm wrong or misunderstood anything.

For example:
Splash damage when walls are being attacked. Is it wise to build walls next to another? Walls should be 5 tiles away from eachother for splash dmg.

I have seen people just putting logs/stones as a defence to stop people from entering town area. You need 50+ biles to lift a boulder on enemy property and it is automatically a crime.

You should really add actual numbers instead of oh this is average, bad, ok, awesome

I'm not sure about this guide. Sure, it has some information in it that is useful to new players, but there is so much missing.

A plank fence as a 'newbie' fence? What kind of newbies are you talking about here? Because for an actual newbie, I would recommend getting started with a split rail and a couple torchposts since those take very little infrastructure or skills.

If you're trying to help the new and inexperienced players, I feel like you're using the wrong starting point. Try to remember how complicated this game was when you started. If someone ever does post a truly useful newbie defense guide, I would be willing to sticky it.

Come on Meow, you guys claimed poopham can finish the ark. Maybe you should decide if its hard or easy to make dry boards, or anything else for that matter.
Makeshift is as good a split rail since you need waste to destroy it on claimed land. And though stone hedge is batter it will do its job only if its heavily defended by braziers and torches so yeah I agree that every noob should aim at plank wall. I also agree with Dallane, Heff try to give some exact numbers.

The ark came into the game months into a server that had a high percentage of veterans. Hardly comparable to one person who has only been playing a few days. It's not hard to make these things... once you have a base and some of the medium range skills. You might want a wall before that.

Sure, unlocked makeshift will do for that much. Stone hedge is a nice starter wall that anyone can make with few easy to get skills and without waiting for boards to dry but its annoying to replace it later on.

I vouch for #6. Vatican City has 2 of the most elite cowards in the game; Heffernan and reeper_aut. If you want to learn how to flee from a fight, they would be a good source of information.
